Tip #7: Trim the Trans Fat

Happy New Year to everyone! Sorry that there was no post last week – I was taking the week off to spend with my family for some much needed fun and refreshment.

We all know that TransFat is the most ugly fat of all for our bodies. But did you also know that trans fat slows down your body’s ability to burn fat?In addition, it leads to insulin resistance and inflammation, both of which cripple metabolism and can cause weight gain.

And, consumer beware….. Even though the package may say 0 grams trans fat, the FDA allows up to a 0.5 discrepancy in the nutrition facts labels when reporting trans fat. That means that you may be consuming somewhere between 0 – 0.5 grams in that food item. If the ingredients contain “partially hydrogenated oil”, that would be an indicator that there are some trans fats in that product.
