Have you just started the new year with another New Year’s resolution to get healthy? Have you been telling yourself for months – or years, even – that this will be the day that you start getting fit? If you’ve set some 2017 fitness goals for yourself, you are not alone – and if you don’t quite follow through with those fitness goals, you definitely won’t be the only one. Fitness goals are notoriously forgotten when the new year comes, and even if you begin your planned routine, something always gets in the way. And it doesn’t matter how many times you tell yourself that you’re going to look great this summer in your new bathing suit or how many times you think you’ll be fitting in that favorite outfit again come spring; if you don’t put in the work, you won’t see the results you want. So how do you move past setting goals to actually following through on your fitness plans? At Total Fitness, our Cambridge, MN fitness coaches want to help you on your fitness journey so that you can do more than set your goals; you can meet them!
Better Nutrition Goals
One of the most important parts of good fitness is good nutrition. If you’re eating too much of the wrong foods and not enough of the right foods, your body will suffer for it, and so will your fitness goals. If you’re serious about improving your health and fitness this year and getting back into that bathing suit when the sun comes out again, you need to begin today. Good nutrition can be difficult to achieve, and it’s impossible to tackle in a day. However, by starting with the basics, you can be well on your way to amazing nutrition improvements by doing the following:
- Drink LOTS of water every day
- Eat more whole grain foods
- Eat more vegetables and fruits
- Substitute out your unhealthy fats and sugars
- Practice moderation in all things food-related!
Setting and Meeting Fitness Goals
Fitness goals are inherently difficult goals to keep, partially because they’re so easy to make. Building healthy fitness routines takes more than sitting down with a pen and calendar and marking the dates you’ll be working out or writing up a workout schedule for yourself. Just like any goal you set, following through takes several times more effort than making the commitment in the first place, so be prepared for the challenge. When you’re setting your 2017 fitness goals, be sure that they are achievable fitness goals. Some examples of achievable goals may be:
- Work out at least 2 days per week. If you work out more than that, treat yourself!
- Fit into that purple dress by summer time!
- Attend one yoga class per week
The simpler your goals, and the more motivated you are to achieve them, the more success you will have in achieving better fitness.
