A recent study by HealthPartners states, “In late adulthood, the hippocampus (part of the brain involved in memory) shrinks, resulting in impaired memory and increased risk of dementia. In adults who are fit, the hippocampus is larger. Aerobic exercise can increase the size of the hippocampus and thus, improve memory. Aerobic exercise: things like walking, swimming, skiing, running, biking, etc.

What else can we do to maintain optimal brain health? Stop smoking; Eat right; Keep learning; Have fun with friends; and Relax. Finding balance and enjoying life is one of the best medicines for keeping a healthy brain and body!
